Wednesday, May 18 (Other)
The other day I was having one of those longgggg days, like we all have. I was tired but needed to go to Platteville and, on the way, my wife asked if I had heard that Willie Nelson had a new album/CD out. I am usually up on these things but this time I was not. “Seriously?”, I replied. Yes, I have downloaded it. Would you like to listen to it? Well, that was a no-brainer. There are a lot of awesome songs (it is Willie) on the “A Beautiful Time” CD. It lifted me up and before long I was singing along, making a joyful noise 😊.
One of the songs that especially caught my attention was “Live Every Day.” The lyrics go like this:
Live every day like it was your last one
And one day you’re gonna be right
Treat everyone like you wanna be treated
See how that changes your life
Yesterday is dead and tomorrow is blind
And the future is way out of sight
Live every day like it was your last one
And one day you’re gonna be right

If there is someone you love
And you haven’t told them
You wanna tell them today
If there is someone you’ve wronged
And you’ve not said I’m sorry
It might be a good thing to say
Pick up the phone and send them a message
It’s time to make everything right
Live every day like it was your last one
One day you’re gonna be right

What if we lived every day like it was our last one? Over the years I have visited with folks as they neared the end of their life and that is usually a special time as so many things are shared. During this time of sharing, sometimes the conversations turn to regrets. I wish I had done this; I wish I had done that; I wish I had followed through with this, etc.
Life is short, filled with ups and downs. We will make mistakes and hopefully learn from those mistakes. As Billy Jo Shaver would say: “Try, try again! If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, again!” Do not leave this world with regrets. Do not let regrets tear you up on the inside.
Do not put off until tomorrow what you can do today because tomorrow may never come…. It’s time to make everything right! Live every day like it was your last one… excuse me, but I’m going out to sing (and dance) in the rain 😊. I may not be able to do it tomorrow. God bless and God’s got this.
